Tips For the First Day of School

*Do some pretend play with your child about how you will go to school and how you will say good-bye.  Imagine waking up, having breakfast, getting into the car, walking into the school and classroom, and kissing and hugging each other good-bye.

*Agree on a good-bye ritual: how many hugs, kisses, sing a song, etc.

*Make sure your child is clear on who will pick him or her up after the school day is over.

*If your child is bringing his or her lunch, involve your child in helping you. to prepare it.  It helps to break up a long day when children can look forward to eating the food they love to eat.

*Include a special note, picture, or poem in your child’s lunch or backpack as a special surprise.

*Make sure that there is plenty of time for you and your child to get ready in the morning.  It is very important that your child eat a good breakfast.

*Please don’t hesitate to let me know if there is anything happening at your house that you think is important for me to know.

*Please let me know if there is anything else that I can do to help.  I am so glad to be your child’s teacher this coming year!  It is going to be a wonderful school year.   I can’t wait to meet your child!
