Welcome to the 8th grade home page

    • Welcome

The 8th grade has been doing amazing things!

The 8th graders have begun to learn about service. We’ve started to make charts calculating our contribution to service every week. One thing that we’ve learned about service is that it builds community. Our church wouldn’t be where it is today if we didn’t do any service.

At the Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, Nov. 8, the 8th graders raised $70 for Catholic Relief Services to go toward the typhoon victiums in the Philippines.

Confirmation is another thing that the 8th graders have been talking about. We are currently searching for a saint to represent our entire class. Each student is to choose a saint and give a speech about them. Once every student has given their speech, the class will vote for which saint they would like to represent their class.

We have learned is about being Catholic; our beliefs, practice, and attitudes. We believe that in the Trinity, three people in one. We practice keeping the Sabbath holy. Our attitude is that we respect the diversity of cultures in the world.

Also, in Project Based Learning, (PBL) the 8th graders spent some time revising our school’s discipline code. They have yet to have it approved by the teachers, principal, and school board.

An additional thing we are working on in PBL, is high schools. The 8th graders are researching about different high schools to find the one that best suites them. On October 5, some representatives from different high schools will come and talk to the 8th grade. We are preparing questions to ask them. We are really excited about this.

      Junior High Book Club

Every month the 7th and 8th graders get together in a book club created just for them by Mrs. Klich, the 8th grade home room and reading teacher. Many people may think that a reading club is boring but this one is fun. It's fun because we get to read and discuss some of our favorite books while having snacks at the Book Cellar a local book store. Mrs. Klich is the club leader but most discussion is started by the the students themselves. It's a great way to get interested in reading.

Books we are reading or will soon be reading:

      Uglies

      Twilight

Five People you Meet in Heaven

      Shattered Glass

      Intensity

      Confirmation

In eighth grade, we've been preparing for the sacrament of Confirmation.  We've been practicing our faith in preparation by...

      • Going to a Confirmation Enrollment Mass
      • Receiving Bibles for teens
      • Reading highlights of The Catholic Faith Handbook for Youth
      • Creating posters on Catholic attitudes, beliefs, and practices
      • Read gospel and writing our own version of it
      • Learning the History of the Church
      • Making a timeline of the History of the Church
      • Learning about the Saints
      • Comparing our religion to others around the world
