  • Welcome to Room 301!

It’s hard to believe that the holiday season is upon us already! The junior high has been working hard over the past few weeks.

6th grade: The 6th grade science class has been learning about climate and conservation of resources. They are currently learning about the effects of fossil fuel use and the pros and cons of alternative forms of energy.

7th grade: The 7th grade Pre-Algebra class has been hard at work lately. They have been working on solving equations and inequalities, and they are beginning to learn the rules of exponents and simplifying fractions.

In science, we have been learning about forces. The class used their knowledge of forces and Newton’s laws of motion to build their own balloon-powered cars and race them across the room. One group was able to use a single balloon to power their car that traveled over 23 feet! The class has also begun to work on science fair, which we will be doing in addition to our physical science topics throughout the trimester. Each student will choose a topic, design and conduct an experiment to answer a question related to that topic, and draw conclusions. They will present their project in our school science fair after the holidays.

8th grade: The 8th grade Algebra class has been working on graphing linear equations and simplifying expressions with exponents. They are becoming experts at graphing equations; they will soon learn how to use graphs to write linear equations.

In science, the 8th grade has been studying heredity and how traits are passed to children from their parents. They will soon begin to study the systems of the human body. The class has also begun to work on science fair, which we will be doing in addition to our life science topics throughout the trimester. Each student will choose a topic, design and conduct an experiment to answer a question related to that topic, and draw conclusions. They will present their project in our school science fair after the holidays.
