HAVE A GREAT SUMMER
I would like to say so long and farewell to my wonderful second grade class. I am very proud of you. You have worked hard this school year and have grown in so many ways. Each of you will always have a special place in my heart. My door is always open to you at any time. Please come back and visit your favorite second grade teacher. Be extra good to your third grade teacher next year and to each other. Be kind! Be honest! Be proud! Let yourself shine! Let everyone see just how special you are because you truly are special. I’ll miss you.
I’d like to thank all the parents of my second grade students. Thank you for your cooperation, support, and kind words throughout the school year. Many thanks for sharing your most precious gifts with me, your children. Children are a reflection of their parents. You should all be very proud! Please encourage your children to read over the summer. Continue to guide them in finding the pleasure and joy reading can bring.
I hope everyone has a wonderful summer. Relax, enjoy, and be safe. See you in August!

SUMMER READING LIST
& PROJECTS
Summer vacation means fun, relaxation, and resting up for the next school year. All this can be done with a good book in your hand. Do not take a vacation from reading. Experience the pleasure that summer reading can bring. Below is a list of books that I feel you will enjoy reading. You are required to read five books of your choice from this list. However, you may challenge yourself to read as many of the books as you can over the summer.
I ask that each student choose a book that you have read from the list that you truly enjoyed reading over the summer. Create a “Book Project” that you would like to share with your class upon your return to school in August. HAPPY READING!

SUMMER BOOK PROJECT SELECTIONS
Choose one book from the summer reading list that you have read and enjoyed. Complete one of the following projects using the book you have selected. Be prepared to present your project to the class and turn in the project upon your return to school at the end of August.
Diorama
Use a shoebox. Decorate the inside of the shoebox to show an important event from the story. You may use construction paper, paint, crayons, markers and any objects you wish. On the outside of the shoebox, write a short summary of your book. Don’t forget to include the title and author.
Book Mobile
After reading your book, create items that will hang from your mobile. These items must be related to the story you have read. The items can include pictures you have drawn, symbols related to the book, key words, sentences about the book, title and author, etc. Tie these items to string and attach the strings to a coat hanger. You may also decorate the hanger.
Book Report in a Bag
On the outside of a paper bag, write the tiile and author of the book you chose. Draw pictures on the paper bag that tell about the book. Find or make objects that go along with the story and place them in the paper bag. Be prepared to tell us about the objects you chose to put in the bag and what they have to do with the story.
Book Poster
Use a large poster board to present your book. On the poster you should have the title and author of the book, a summary of the book and at least three colored pictures showing what happened at the beginning, middle, and end of the story.
