Technology Today
Welcome to the St. Matthias Transfiguration School technology web page. We have launched this site to show how we prepare our students to be active participants in their future and in the future of the society they will help shape. To assist our students in achieving this goal, we have integrated cutting edge technologies and teaching methodologies while retaining a core curriculum of solid instruction. This makes a St. Matthias Transfiguration education one of the best available.
Our students learn how to use technology effectively and productively for outcomes that reflect the mind of the student and not that of a webpage author. To ensure a well rounded and comprehensive learning experience, our students have access to unequaled technology and a faculty experienced in motivating students to excel. The lower grades are introduced to computer skills in our well equipped computer lab. On graduation to the middle school, they are well prepared to use their laptop computers as a primary research tool.
All middle school students are assigned a dedicated notebook computer that they will use every day of the school year. St. Matthias Transfiguration students have Inspiration preloaded on their laptops. This program helps students to plan and organize their work, and to research and evaluate material for projects. It also helps them to comprehend and communicate their work.
Teachers and students use Ecto on a daily basis. Truls Henriksen, the originator of Ecto, describes this exciting service:
EctoLearning is a hosted networked Personal Learning Environment (nPLE) that is focused on the student and is fully collaborative, where the learning content can be user-created, user-rated, shared and open. With EctoLearning the wired classroom becomes interactive, collaborative, and student-centered -- the very definition of a modern learning environment and the only learning system designed to accomplish this.
Each of the upper grade classrooms has a Promethean Board. This learning aid is the latest generation of interactive whiteboard and is a dynamic addition to the classroom.
